How CSR is churning economic freedom for rural women

20/09/2025

A slew of innovative efforts by the Deepak Foundation are empowering women dairy farmers and their families across rural Gujarat and Maharashtra, while adhering to sustainability principles.

The foundation which was established in 1982, began by providing healthcare services to workers and local communities in Nandesari’s industrial area. Over the years, it has evolved into a leading non-profit organisation with a pan-India presence in territories like Maharashtra, Telangana, Jharkhand, and New Delhi.

It aims to create a socially inclusive and sustainable environment by delivering services in healthcare, education, skill development, livelihoods, and support for individuals with disabilities. Its core mission is to empower women, improve maternal and child health, reduce poverty, and promote inclusive development for underprivileged communities.

Livestock health and breeding efficiency are central to sustainable dairy farming. Recognising this, the Deepak Foundation has rolled out an affordable veterinary supply initiative that provides essential services—such as mineral supplementation, deworming, and outpatient consultations—at minimal cost.

Delivered by a dedicated veterinary professional, these services have significantly boosted livestock productivity and reduced disease prevalence. More than 6000 outpatient consultations have been conducted across Maharashtra and Gujarat, ensuring timely and accessible animal healthcare for rural farmers.
